INDIGART News

Our COVID19 update…

At INDIGART Designs LLC, we have been in communication with our partner weavers in Guatemala amid this current crisis.  We were informed that they have closed down their workshops and stores due to the current lockdown. However, the weavers continue to work from home given that they continue to rely on their income to be able to provide for themselves and their families. Unfortunately, the current situation is greatly affecting the local tourist industry, which tends to be the main source of revenue for most indigenous weavers in Guatemala.

We will continue to support our partners in Guatemala as much as we can. Therefore, we have made the decision to adapt our business model and keep our online store open on an ongoing basis instead of only one weekend per month as we had originally planned. At the same time, we are exploring ways to further support our partners in Guatemala who have been affected by this unimaginable circumstance.  Shop our products online – and if you have any questions feel free to contact us.

Sponsored by the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) and the Washington City Paper, this one-hour workshop introduced participants to basic weaving techniques using repurposed and recycled materials. We loved seeing everyone’s excitement and beautiful creations during this event!
